Directions

Preparing the Meatballs
1. Heat a medium-sized skillet to medium.
2. Add a couple tablespoons of neutral oil.
3. Saute half of your onions until translucent and then add in half of your garlic for another 30 seconds until fragrant.
4. Remove from the heat and let cool before adding to your meat.
5. In a medium-sized bowl, add sausage and ground beef.
6. Add cooled onions and garlic, eggs, parmesan, bread crumbs, and seasonings.
7. Gently roll your meat into small balls. Make sure they're not too big so that they will fit on your hoagie roll.
8. Heat your oil to medium and add your meatballs in batches.
9. Sear on each side for 1 minute until golden brown.
10. Once you have seared all of your meatballs, set them to the side.
Preparing the Sauce
1. In a medium-sized saucepan, saute your onions until translucent.
2. Once your onions are soft and translucent, add in garlic.
3. Cook until fragrant.
4. Next, add in San Marzano tomatoes. If they are whole, make sure you crush them down as much as you can or use an immersion blender.
5. Add in your prepared pasta sauce or you can add basil, tomato sauce, and Italian seasonings.
6. Let your sauce stew together and season to your liking.
Finalizing the Dish
1. Add half of your pasta sauce to a skillet and then add in your seared meatballs.
2. Cover the meatballs with more sauce and heat and cook through on low for around 10 minutes before adding your cheese.
3. Add your cheese on top of the meatballs as well as garnish.
4. Cover with a lid until the cheese is melted.
5. While your cheese is melting, toast your hoagie buns with a little bit of butter.
6. Add the meatballs to your toasted bun along with as much sauce as you like.
7. Enjoy!
