Main Ingredients
- 110 g dates
- 0.5 cup Milk
- 0.5 teaspoon Baking soda
- 50 g Unsalted butter
- 0.25 cup Brown sugar
- 1 Large egg
- 0.5 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 tablespoon coffee powder
- 0.5 cup + 3 tbsp All purpose flour
- 0.5 teaspoon Baking powder
- 0.25 teaspoon Salt
Toffee Sauce
- 40 g Unsalted butter
- 0.5 cup Heavy cream
- 6 tablespoons Brown sugar
- 0.5 teaspoon vanilla
- pinch Salt
- 0.5 teaspoon coffee powder
- Vanilla ice cream

Preparing the Cake Batter
1. In a bowl, add dates, boiling hot milk and baking soda. Let it soak for 5-10 minutes.
2. Blend or mash it into a smooth paste.
3. To the paste, add butter, brown sugar, coffee, egg and vanilla. Mix until combined.
4. Add flour, baking powder and salt.
5. Mix until combined. Don't overmix.
6. Transfer to a baking pan and bake at 175°C for 30-35 minutes.
Preparing the Toffee Sauce
1. Meanwhile, make the toffee sauce. In a pan, add butter, cream, brown sugar, coffee, vanilla and salt.
2. Mix and cook on medium heat.
3. Let it simmer on low heat for 10 minutes while mixing occasionally. Turn off the heat and keep it aside.
Finalizing the Cake
1. When the cake is baked, let it cool for 10 minutes.
2. Make holes in the cake using a fork and pour the hot toffee sauce all over the cake; let it soak completely.
3. Optionally serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipping cream and some toffee sauce.
