- 1.5 cups Flour
- 1 tsp Baking soda
- 0.25 tsp Salt
- 2 tsps Ground ginger
- 1 tsp Cinnamon
- 0.25 tsp Ground cloves
- 0.25 cup melted butter
- 0.667 cup dark brown sugar, (1/2 cup for less sugar)
- 0.667 cup Molasses
- 0.667 cup boiling water
- 1 large Egg

1. Preheat oven to 350 F.
2. Grease a 9 inch square pan with butter or line it with parchment paper.
Mixing the Dry Ingredients
1. In a bowl, whisk together all the dry ingredients and then set aside.
Preparing the Wet Ingredients
1. In a larger bowl, whisk the melted butter, brown sugar, molasses and boiling water.
2. Let the mixture cool down a bit and mix in the egg.
Combining the Ingredients
1. Mix the wet and dry ingredients well, until there are no lumps.
1. Pour the mixture into the pan and bake for 35 minutes.
2. The edges should darken and the middle will be firm to the touch.
3. Let it cool and then cut it into 16 or more pieces and enjoy!
1. The cake is slightly sweet and you may want to reduce the sugar content if you prefer less sweetness.
