Directions

Preparation of Baking Sheet
1. Line a baking sheet with foil and spray with cooking spray.
Combining Ingredients
1. Combine butter, sugar, and salt in a large, heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium heat.
2. Stir until butter is melted.
Boiling the Mixture
1. When the butter has melted, bring the mixture to a boil.
2. Once it is boiling, stir occasionally until it becomes a dark caramel color or the temperature reaches 300º (hard crack candy point).
Pouring and Spreading Toffee
1. Pour toffee onto the baking sheet, and spread into an even layer.
2. Sprinkle with chocolate chips, and let them sit until they soften (about 1-2 minutes).
3. Use a spatula to spread the melted chocolate across the entire top of the toffee.
Adding Toppings
1. Sprinkle your desired toppings on top.
2. I usually do half with almonds and Maldon salt, and half with crushed candy canes.
Refrigeration and Storage
1. Put the baking pan in the refrigerator until the toffee is firm, overnight or at least 1 hour.
2. Break the toffee into pieces, and store in an airtight container.
