- 1.5 lbs Chicken
- 0.5 c Cooking oil
- 1 large Red Onion
- 2 Tomato, medium fresh purée
- 2 tbsp Ginger, fresh crushed
- 2 tbsp Garlic, fresh crushed
- 4 Potatoes, cut in small pieces
- Cilantro, Chopped
- Ginger, Julienned
- Salt, to taste
- 0.5 tsp Red Chili Powder
- 1 tbsp Cumin, ground
- 1 tbsp Coriander, ground
- 1 tsp Turmeric powder
- 0.5 tsp Cumin, whole
- 1 tsp garam masala, or to taste

Preparation of Onions and Chicken
1. Add the oil to a pan on medium heat.
2. Once it’s hot, add onions.
3. When it’s translucent, blend it to a paste and add it back to the pan.
4. Then add chicken and let it cook for 5 minutes.
Adding Spices and Tomatoes
1. In goes ginger and garlic paste.
2. Cook for another 5 minutes so the raw smell goes away.
3. Then add the spices and cook for 10 minutes.
4. After that add tomatoes and let it cook until the oil separates.
Adding Potatoes and Creating Broth
1. Then add the potatoes and pour enough water to create “shorba” or broth.
2. Cook until the potatoes are perfectly tender and the broth is flavorful.
Final Touches
1. Lastly add Garam masala, ginger and cilantro and its ready to eat.
