- 2 cups Chana daal
- 2 Onions, large, chopped
- 3 Tomatoes, large, puréed
- 2 tbsp ginger purée
- 2 tbsp garlic purée
- 1 tbsp Salt, or to taste
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- 1 Cilantro, chopped for garnish
- 0.5 cup Cooking oil

Preparing the Lentils
1. Wash the lentils (daal) and let it soak for an hour.
2. I used a pressure cooker to cook it faster.
3. Add salt to taste.
Preparing the Sauce
1. In a separate pan add cooking oil.
2. On medium heat, bring the oil to smoky temp before adding in the chopped onion and cook it until golden brown.
3. Then add ginger/garlic purée.
4. Cook for 4-5 minutes before adding in the tomato purée.
Final Steps
1. Cook until the oil separates.
2. Then add the salt and ground spices.
3. Cook on high flame for 5 minutes.
4. You will see the oil separate again.
5. Now add in the boiled lentil and mix it well.
6. Add 1/2 cup of water if you find the consistency to be thick.
7. Now let it simmer for 10 minutes and garnish it with cilantro.
8. Perfect with homemade achar, warm naan and chilled diet cola.
