Directions

Preparing the Sauce
1. In a bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, mirin (or rice wine vinegar), sesame oil, grated fresh ginger (if using), crushed red pepper flakes, and a pinch of black pepper.
2. Set this sauce aside.
Cooking the Beef
1. Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
2. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it into crumbles with a spatula as it cooks.
3. When the beef is mostly browned, add the chopped onion and minced garlic.
4. Continue to cook until the beef is fully browned, the onion is translucent, and the garlic is fragrant.
Combining the Sauce and Beef
1. Pour the sauce mixture over the cooked beef and onions.
2. Stir well to combine.
3. Allow the mixture to simmer for about 5-7 minutes, or until the sauce thickens slightly and coats the beef evenly.
4. Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed.
Serving the Dish
1. To serve, spoon the cooked rice into individual serving bowls.
2. Top each bowl with a generous portion of the beef bulgogi mixture.
3. Garnish with sliced green onions, sesame seeds, and fresh cucumber slices, and a fried egg if desired.
4. Serve your easy beef bulgogi bowls hot and enjoy.
