- 3 cups mash daal
- 1 Onion, medium, sliced
- 1 tbsp Ginger, crushed
- 1 tbsp Garlic, crushed
- 2 Tomatoes, sliced
- 1.5 tbsp Salt
- 1 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1 tsp Chili powder
- 1 tbsp cumin powder
- 1 tbsp coriander powder
- 3 tbsp ghee
- 1 tbsp Cumin seeds
- 4 dried whole red chili
- Cilantro, chopped for garnish

Directions

Preparation of Daal
1. Wash and soak Mashed daal. Set it aside for 30 minutes.
Preparing the Base
1. In a pan, pour oil and once hot add sliced onion.
2. Once softened, add garlic and ginger. Mix for 2-3 minutes.
3. Then add tomatoes to the mix.
4. Cover and let it soften for 10 minutes.
5. Now add the spices and after mixing it well add half a cup of water and cover on medium low heat for 10 minutes.
6. Uncover and stir. Gently break it with a wooden spoon so it becomes a paste.
Adding the Main Ingredient
1. Drain all the water from the lentils and add it to the pan.
2. Mix and add a cup of water and let it cook on slow simmer for 20 minutes.
3. Once completely cooked, carefully add in the “tarka” made of ghee, cumin seeds and dry white chilies.
4. Enjoy with salad and homemade roti!
