Directions

Prepare the Sauce
1. In a small bowl, add minced garlic, sesame seeds, cumin powder, cumin seeds, and chili powder.
2. Heat 3 tablespoons of oil in a small saucepan until it’s hot. Carefully pour the hot oil over the prepared sauce ingredients in the bowl. Mix well.
3. In the same bowl, add soy sauce, oyster sauce, and sugar. Mix everything until well combined to create the sauce.
Prepare and Cook the Tofu
1. Drain the tofu and pat it dry with a towel. Cut tofu lengthwise in half, then crosswise into 1/2-inch thick pieces.
2. Heat a generous amount of oil (enough to cover the base) in a large non-stick skillet over low-medium heat.
3. Place 1 cup of corn starch in a shallow bowl and the beaten egg in another bowl. Dip each tofu piece in corn starch first. Ensuring all sides are coated, and shake off any excess corn starch. Then dip the tofu piece in the beaten egg. Immediately transfer the tofu piece into the skillet.
4. Arrange the tofu pieces in the skillet in a single layer.
5. Turn the heat up to medium and cook each side for about 2-3 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Use paper towels to blot out some of the excess oil if necessary.
6. Pour the prepared sauce over the pan-fried tofu pieces. Carefully toss or flip the tofu pieces a few times with a spatula, ensuring they are evenly coated with the sauce.
7. Transfer everything to a plate and garnish with some chopped green onions on top if desired.
8. Serve hot as a main dish and enjoy!
