Directions

1. Preheat the oven to 400 F.
2. Shred cheddar and mozzarella cheese, then set aside. Using fresh shredded cheeses works best with this dish as they melt better. If you are unable to use fresh shredded cheese, you can substitute with pre-shredded cheese.
3. In a skillet on medium heat, add in olive oil, then add in diced onion. Add in ½ teaspoon of salt and cook onions for 2-3 minutes. Add in minced garlic and cook for another minute.
4. Turn heat up to medium-high and add in minced ground beef, season with 1 teaspoon salt and black pepper or season to taste, and cook for about 5-7 minutes or until beef is fully cooked.
5. Remove cooked beef from the skillet and drain the grease. Add beef back into the skillet, then add ½ Cup of blended cheddar & mozzarella cheese. Cook on low and mix cheese in until melted.
6. Cut puff pastry into equal sized strips. To make egg wash, whisk together egg and milk. Brush the edges of the puff pastry with the egg wash. To one side of the puff pastry add ¼ cup of cheese as a bottom layer, add ⅓ cup of beef, and top with ¼ cup of cheese. Fold over, press down on the edges and use a fork to seal. Slice 3 slits across the top of the puff pastry and brush a small amount of egg wash across the top. Repeat steps for each strip.
7. Place each turnover on a lined baking sheet with a light coating of non-stick cooking spray. Bake at 400F for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown.
